TRY IT. IT WORKS FOR ME!
I bought for myself and fixed my neck pain. My husband is now using it for his shoulders. We use it daily on waking and before sleeping.Chiropractor recommended but didn't buy after reading negative reviews. BIG MISTAKE! It's sturdy. Yes seems expensive but waaay cheaper then chiropractic visits. We're so pleased with our improvement I gifted one to my sister. Now my daughter has bought one. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Watch out if you have TMJ
I not only suffer from neck pain for the past few years. I was recommended traction by my doctor and spent several months at PT. The therapist did traction using her hands while also assigning me exercises to build the muscles in my neck. Overall, the muscles become better but I continued to suffer from vertigo and have pain. I started to investigate these gadgets for doing traction on my own. Of course the ultimate are the $300 electrical machines. Considering what I paid for in PT, maybe that would have been a better investment. This model had good reviews so I took a chance. I read that some users with TMJ had difficulty. Some users also tweaked the unit to reduce jaw pain. Following this advice I purchased a few parts at a hardware store. This reduced the pressure on the side of the jaw. That said, the unit is holding on to to the back of your head and under your jaw as it lifts up your head. I'm sorry to say that even with my tweaking of the machine, I was having pain in my jaw. It does help the neck. Can't say it is a night and day difference. I proceeded to use the units several nights and worked my way up in weights. After 1 week my TMJ was flaring up. Bottom line: The maker needs to place a warning on the unit. DO NOT USE if you suffer from TMJ. I prayed my jaw pain would go away as I REALLY wanted this unit to work. But its design, and most likely, other door-based traction units are going to cause havoc on your jaw joints. In the end, it was a waste of money. You may get better results by doing chin-tucks and also hanging your head off the bed and doing tucks. In this case, no pressure on your TMJ. If you have ONLY neck pain, buy this device. If you have any level of TMJ. Do not buy this! I will rate a 1 star simply to help save other TMJ the time/money on this unit.

Works well, a little confusing to hang up
I must say it was only the photograph here on Amazon that helped me figure out how to hang this device on the door! I admit to being not the most mechanical sort - and the device is pretty much assembled - but which way and how to place the hinge on the door was not obvious to me, and the instructions were not well done at all.I have used it for several weeks now and I have felt some relief with my neck (I have chronic neck issues including 'reversed' neck curve). It seems to be well made, and the velcro straps on the canvas that holds the head is strong and adheres well. The thing has a rather ominous appearance hanging up but it is too much trouble to take up and put down repeatedly. I hide mine behind a curtain! The system is pretty simple once you've tried it once - you just hear the clicks as you pull the strap, and that tells you that you are lifting your head another level; you start out with a small stretch and add more gradually.Strongly advise you to think long and hard and do some research before purchasing since you can't return it! Also make sure you have a place to put it where you can stand to be for awhile - I did not have any doors that faced a TV for example, and you'd be surprised how long 10 or 15 minutes can seem with your faced scrunched up and just hanging there! I ended up putting mine on my curtain rod in the living room, so I could at least watch tv.Also it is true as others mentioned here that there is a lot of pulling on the chin by the head strap, so for people with TMJ this may not be a good idea. Used with proper caution and care, this is a bargain compared to ongoing chiro or PT visits, or some of the other devices available.

Great stretch
This works perfectly. Very comfortable. Great stretch. You need to hold the rope in your hands to keep it tight, otherwise the safety clutch will loosen the rope. I imagine that is consistent with items like this. Great product. I’m on my second one. My only complaint is that the door bracket is plastic. My first one the bracket was metal

Not sure if we should use without the presence of a licensed pro
Don't get me wrong, this contraption works great. But given what it's supposed to do - pull your head and neck up from a very possibly stuck and painful position - I'm not sure we should buy using this at home without the supervision of someone more knowledgeable.I've had chronic shoulder/neck pain for YEARS and have always liked the machine at the PT's office which mimics what this traction device is supposed to do. This model is obviously more basic - something you throw over the top of a door - but works well. However, it's easy to get carried away and cause undue pain or further damage, if you're not careful.During times of great pain, I would do the prescribed amount of time on the device, but feel very uncomfortable at the base of my neck (probably pulling too long and/or too high up). Other times, just holding the neck in a certain position in the device will cause this discomfort. This is a good device to have in a pinch (no pun intended), but please see your PT for real relief - this thing shouldn't be relied upon, simply because we're probably not knowledgeable enough to use it.
