Inventive, useful, well designed product - Manual could use some work
This is really an amazing product, very useful for whole house filtering, and I wish I'd gotten it sooner.Pros- Well designed- Very large- Fine mesh- Inventive design- High quality brass and see-thru plastic- Many programming options for flushing frequency and duration- Well designed bracket, can mount 2 ways- Universal fittings- The electronic valve with clip is very simple to remove and install, which you have to do to replace batteries or attach the AC adapterCons - The biggest issue is the manual/spec needs work for example:- What kind of tubing does the unit take? Turns out it is 3/8" OD, but is any special kind needed? Only a few feet are included but 25' costs $5, so more should have been included.- How to remove/replace the tubing? You have to remove/untwist the drain cover, remove the tubing clip, hold the tube "collar" while pushing the tube, replace the tube and collar, and then twist back on the drain cover. Very easy once you know how.- What kind of fittings are used? The manual does say 1" MNPT, which are also called "water softener fittings" and there are Shark Bite flexible lines that fit this size.- The included drywall anchors are junk, highly recommend putting at least 2 screws in a stud, or mounting a piece of wood on a stud, and then mounting the bracket to the piece of wood.- The drain flow can be crazy. I had two tubes connected to the same drain line. While this unit was draining, the water came up the other tube about 3'. Highly recommend just running a long line direct into a drain.- Maintenance is just described quickly in the manual. It says it the mesh needs to be cleaned with vinegar every year or so, but some of the comments from the manufacturer said it needs to be *replaced* every year? I would hope these filters can be cleaned and not continually replaced.- It would be nice to buy a spare filter or maybe even a different size mesh, but the options to find part numbers or buy them is limited on the website.- Many disassembly options are drawn in the manual but not described, for example, removing the drain cover, removing the ball valve cover, etc. The pictures are actually pretty good, but more information is needed such as...which of these operations need the water turned off, how to remove the filter without drowning, etc.I realize the above list may look like a lot, and after using and trying things, and asking questions from support, many of these things are obvious. I just think the manual can be improved a bit, offer a copy online, describe things better, etc. Otherwise I LOOOOVEEE this filter and it still deserves 5 stars.

This is the best spin-down sediment filter
These filters work great and are well worth the money if you have a lot of sediment in your water. They seem to be made of quality materials, are simple to instal, do the job well, and customer service from the company is great. The large filters allow much more water through without getting clogged and reducing the water pressure. The automatic flush timer helps tremendously at keeping the filters clean.I have a well that pulls up a lot of sediment. I have been using the smaller spin down filters for years, and they certainly do the job of keeping the sediment out of lines, but the problem is they get clogged so fast that I was constantly having to clean the filters. I purchased 2 of these jumbo spin down filters, one with a 100 micron filter and one with a 50 micron filter, and installed them in line along with a separate 5 micron cartridge filter. Using these three different size filters helps keep the filters from clogging. I only lose about 2 psi of water pressure using the filters. When I installed these filters, I had a problem with one of the automatic flush timers not mounting to the filter housing properly. There is a pin that has to be inserted to hold the timer onto the casing, and the problem was the timer would not go onto the casing all the way and wouldn't allow the pin to be inserted. I tried adjusting the valve and making sure it was in the off position and still could not get it to go on all the way. I contacted customer service about the issue and Michele was very helpful. By process of elimination, we determined that problem was with the filter housing. I was promptly sent a new one, and the timer fit on the new one just fine. Both filters are now working perfectly.Thank you Michele for your help!I would highly recommend these filters. The only negative would be the high price tag, but you get what you pay for and I think they are well worth what you pay.
