Elegant power bank
The media could not be loaded. This is an elegant power bank. Most power banks have a 12-month warranty. This seller gives an 18-month warranty on all of its power banks, which is reassuring - it implies that it has confidence in its products. The best way to show you what this power bank, sent to me for review, is like and its features is via a video, so I have made a video review. If you do not enlarge the video to full screen, it sometimes plays with sound but no video (a blank, black screen) - this seems to be an Amazon glitch. To cure it, press the 'full screen' icon. If you are reading this on a mobile phone, you may be unable to view the video - you will be able to watch it on a computer or tablet.(N.B. The silver edging on my powerbank has a criss-cross pattern, as seen in my video. Yet on Amazon's web page, the edging has straight lines. The supplier has told me that the one it is selling on this page is the criss-crossed one, and it will update its photos soon).A case like this will protect it.This power bank is suitable for charging items that charge with a current of 1.0 Amp e.g. phones and e-book readers such as Kindles. It is not suitable for charging tablets (such as iPads, other tablets and Kindle Fires) as they require a current of between 1.8 and 2.1 Amps. This power bank is rated at 5,000 mAh. That is the capacity of the battery - how much energy it stores. For example, a 4,000 mAh battery will last twice as long as a 2,000 mAh battery - and 2,000 mAh is the capacity of the battery in a typical smartphone (e.g. iPhones range from 1,440 mAh in an iPhone 5 to 1,810 mAh in an iPhone 6. The iPhone 6 Plus is 2,915 mAh and a Samsung Galaxy S5 is 2,800 mAh).The point is that this battery is two-and-a-half times the size of the average smartphone battery, which makes it useful. That doesn't mean that it will charge a smartphone two-and-a-half times before running out because the transfer of electricity from one device to another is never 100% efficient but it does mean that you can expect to get one-and-a-bit full charges of a 2,000 mAh phone out of it - by which time you will have been able to recharge the power bank. Therefore lugging around a larger power bank is arguably pointless unless you are going to be without access to mains power for many days (e.g. if camping or going to a music festival).Power banks tend to range in capacity from 2,000mAh to approximately 20,000 mAh - this one is at the top of the lower end. The problem with increasing the capacity is that the weight and volume increase too. It is a personal choice whether or not you would prefer a power bank with a larger capacity (which is also larger and heavier).Having a power bank is an essential luxury, in my opinion. It means that those times when you are leaving your home only to discover that your phone battery is nearly dead are no longer a problem. Even if you are travelling by car and have a car charger, this power bank means that you can give it a long continuous charge (useful if your car journey is short). It's great for flights, tube and train journeys. And it is also enhances safety (a dead phone battery can make you more vulnerable). One tip: It damages batteries to use them while charging them so, when using this power bank to charge say a smartphone, it helps if you do not use the smartphone. This is an elegant power bank.Disclaimer: I received this product for free in exchange for my honest & unbiased review. One of the reasons why I have made a video is that I do not want you to take my word for what it is like – with a video, you can judge for yourself.
