LiquitexProfessional Gesso Surface Prep Medium, 237ml (8-oz), Black

I love this Gesso. Just a little, with a light mist of water just going and going. The Gesso is thick, yet spreads easily, and covers the canvas. I use it to cover my canvases that didn't work out, and there is no bleed through. I am very happy with this purchase.

Love this Gesso, and what I use it for is coating the backs of my spone-like stamps...my foamies! This is how I mark my foamies for stamping in black, when I want to color the images in later.

works well, i am using this for plastic 3d figurines / miniatures. I no longer wish to spray paint on Primer I just brush this on.

love this product, especially that it's in a squeeze bottle so no black mess to clean up. It spread well and covered a regular canvas nicely without additional coats. i did a study on that canvas and have to say, maybe i should have done multiple coats because it was a very gripping surface with one coat. probably my fault, but worth sharing. i will do two coats an lightly sand like most gesso coats on regular canvases. i like trying black for portraits - this was a first try and i think this product did very well....just a learning curve for me. i will buy again.

Gesso for picture painting

Overall, its a great product. So far, it dries quite evenly as long as you follow through with each brush stroke. My only criticism, if i had to pick one, would be the smell. I don't recommend using it in a confined or compact space; wear a mask or with a fan and good ventilation. From bottle to canvas, it doesn't go as far as I was hoping; but I think a drying retardant will do the trick without diluting or fading the color. That being said; i think this is a must-have for any intermediate or pro level canvas painter.

Wife heard about this product from an art colleague and decided to give it a try. She'd been using the white gesso for years. Said this is a wonderful product but the surface area coverage isn't as good as the white gesso by same company, so you may have to add more gesso to the surface if you want a nice black. Also, she noticed it has a bit more grit than the white and subdues colors, whereas the white tends to make the colors pop more. That being said, she's really been enjoying the contrast to her artwork this gesso brings.
